Research Engineer

Job Description:

We are currently seeking highly motivated individuals with a proven track record of developing scientific computing software for energy conversion and storage systems including batteries, capacitors, and (bio) fuel cells. The job responsibilities include:

  • Develop physical and electrochemical models, design and implement computational algorithms for predicting the performance of energy conversion and storage processes at both component- and system-level
  • Identify new designs, materials, multi-scale structures, and operational strategies to improve performance of energy production and storage components
  • Document technical activities and findings in reports and publications
  • Contribute to future research through proposal preparation and by expanding existing technical capabilities

Job Requirements:

  • B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in chemical engineering or related field
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in electrochemistry, reaction engineering, multiphase transport, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics
  • Strong background in numerical techniques, linear algebra, and optimization approaches
  • Experience in code development and compilation on both Windows and Linux platforms, including linking to various external numerical libraries (e.g., Trilinos and PETSc), and proficiency in object-oriented programming languages (C++ is a must)

Desired Skills:

  • Source code level familiarity with open source (e.g., openFOAM) and/or commercial CFD codes
  • Knowledge of hardware-based computational acceleration (e.g., parallel and GPU computing)
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills, creativity in R&D, and capability of working in a stimulating, multidisciplinary, cutting edge science environment emphasizing teamwork
  • Strong written/oral communication and organizational skills to contribute to both internal and external collaboration
  • US citizenship or permanent residency is desired
